Reliability boost for thermistors
Betatherm Ireland has embarked on extensive reliability studies across a wide range of its temperature sensing products.
Temperature probe resists moisture
Betatherm's moistureproof probe has been developed as a solution for a wide range of applications where proof against moisture is required.
NTC thermistors are typically used as disposable medical temperature products to optimise monitoring accuracy and clinical hygienic standards.
Betatherm's NTC thermistor sensors offer a combination of electrical sensitivity, durability and interchangeability in a variety of physical configurations at reasonable cost.
The electrical standard for temperature sensors requires that the resistance versus temperature characteristics are "400 series compatible", with particular resistance values of 2252ohm at 25C, 1354ohm at 37C and temperature tolerance of +/-0.1C over the range 32 to 44C.
Physical configurations offered by Betatherm Sensors include temperature sensors for surface measurement.
The thermistor element is contained in a flat, circular metal housing, with extension leads.
The metal housing is typically of 5 or 10mm diameter.
The sensor is generally used to make temperature measurements by skin contact with a patient, or for monitoring surface or environmental temperatures.
Other temperature sensors are suitable for incorporation in catheters or invasive medical devices.
In these sensor assemblies, Betatherm's thermistor element is contained in a vinyl cap with extension leads.
The tip dimensions are typically of the order of 1.8mm diameter.
The sensor is suitable for use in a variety of applications including Foley catheters, oesophageal temperature monitoring, oral and rectal fever thermometers, and temperature measurement of environments.
Although Betatherm's standard product offering is based on the "400 series compatible" thermistor probe configurations, the company can also support customised sensor requirements.
Options for customisation include different resistance versus temperature characteristics, a selection of lead types and a variety of integral custom connectors (Molex, DIN, phono-style etc).
