NCAPS is a Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor specifically developed by BEI Technologies to provide a cost effective, high-resolution, rotary position sensor.

BEI Duncan Electronics introduces NCAPS, a Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor specifically developed by BEI Technologies to provide a cost effective, high-resolution, rotary position sensor Initially intended for steering angle sensing, NCAPS is ideally suited to a wide range of applications including automotive, heavy equipment, marine, instrumentation, industrial automation and robotics

Incorporating patent pending technology, NCAPS uses a clever adaptation of transceiver technology and digital signal processing techniques.

This, together with a combination of proven and durable materials, allows an extremely slim package of less than 12mm.

Unlike most sensing systems that cannot detect position at power on, NCAPS has mechanical memory at start-up and does not require electronic memory or a re-set function.

The new device is non-contact and measures angular position over a full 360ø range with +/- 1.5% absolute linearity.

There is a wide range of gear reduction and multiplication options, allowing for multiple turns.

NCAPS is tolerant to shaft misalignment/endplay and can be packaged in through-hole, shaft drive and planetary gearing configurations.

The non-contact technology offers a wide variety of package sizes, some as small as 37 mm in diameter.

The current NCAPS design has a pulse width modulated (PWM) output, or analogue voltage as an option.

Should production volumes require, NCAPS can readily incorporate an ASIC to meet unique electrical interfaces.

Use of this sensor can significantly reduce packaging problems, as well as weight and power consumption requirements.

Due to its inherent flexibility, NCAPS can be supplied individually, stacked or integrated into assemblies.

All NCAPS sensors can be customised to meet customer specific mechanical or electrical interfaces.
