BEI Kimco Magnetics Division has released a fully enclosed linear voice coil assembly with internal bearings.

The Model LA16-27-000A is a noncommutated linear servomotor with a linear force constant versus displacement characteristic for simple two-wire control.

The voice coil direct drive technology, combined with low friction guiding within a compact housing, makes it ideal for proportional valve actuation in medical applications such as breathing aid equipment, where hysteresis and cog-free operation is required.

Other applications include precision pressure and flow control, spindle feeds, medical diagnosis, therapeutic and surgical device control, and semiconductor fabrication.

There are also applications in the manufacture, inspection and packaging of printed circuit boards, the machine tool industry and optical systems.

The assembly comprises a 4mm diameter by 20mm long output shaft with internal bearings, flexible coil connection circuit and a coil/shaft assembly antirotation feature.

The 40mm diameter linear actuator features a total stroke of 6.0mm, a continuous stall force of 13.5N and a 10s peak force of 60N.

Electrical time constant is 0.115ms and mechanical time constant is 2.97ms.

Other sizes and configurations of actuators with integral sensors are available to special order.

The new actuator represents a significant technological advance over conventional technologies for any short stroke application and provides significant improvements in speed and process throughput.

It is part of a much wider range of voice coil linear actuators, brushless DC motors and controllers for motion control.
