Beckhoff's new compact bus couplers fill a gap between its existing low-cost coupler and high-end standard couplers.

Beckhoff's new compact bus couplers fill a gap between its existing low-cost coupler and high-end standard couplers.

The new bus coupler is recognised by the second to last digit in the part numbering being a 5, such as BK5250 for a compact Devicenet bus coupler or BK3150 for Profibus.

The bus couplers range in price from $122 to $375 and connect to Beckhoff's industry leading 100+ I/O signals called bus terminals.

Bus terminals range in price from $5 per point to $500 for an encoder input that can locally trigger a high speed output.

Bus terminal signals come in one-, two-, four- or eight-channel types from simple digital ins and outs to very complex signal processing which includes oscilloscope, communication, encoder and resistor bridge terminals.

The bus terminals range in price from $5 per point for digital to $250 for a special function terminal.

For example, the $122 LC5100 low cost Devicenet coupler connects only digital I/O, has a low cost connection method, and allows 64 digital I/O to be connected.

The BK5220 $215 Economy Plus Devicenet coupler connects up to 1020 points of Beckhoff's 100+ I/O signals, and uses the standard Devicenet connector.

The new $147 BK5250 Devicenet compact coupler connects 64 bus terminals, not just digital, and uses the standard Devicenet connector.

Beckhoff now offers eight different Profibus bus couplers and six different Devicenet couplers and continues to provide no charge support and very low prices.
