Software safeguards PC controller data

A Beckhoff Automation product story

TwinCAT Backup is a novel tool that allows easy transfer of all critical data from one PC controller to another.

TwinCAT Backup is a novel tool that allows easy transfer of all critical data from one PC controller to another.

With TwinCAT Backup identical PC hardware is not necessary.

This allows customers to leverage the latest PC technology while reducing their cost of change.

It also allows for easy replacement of one controller to another.

For example, one PC could have an ISA Profibus card or DeviceNet card whereas the replacement PC only has the newer PCI versions.

Or, the replacement PC could be a Pentium 4 socket 478 and have a newer operating system such as Windows XP.

Before TwinCAT Backup, computer hard drives were "imaged" or "ghost" to create backups.

However, images require identical hardware and by nature the OS is identical.

TwinCAT runs as a normal program in Windows and will automatically perform full and incremental data backups.

The backup data can include TwinCAT data and program files, computer name, network settings, and other critical programs such as the HMI or Scada software.

TwinCAT Backup along with Beckhoff's complete PC based control offering makes it possible to run an entire plant with PC based control.
