Keeping the pressure for motor racing tyres

A BERU F1 Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 17, 2006

Digital tyre pressure monitoring system uses pressure and temperature sensors together to identify a puncture, cross checking values with preset parameters defined by racing team engineers.

BERU F1 Systems is supplying its digital tyre pressure monitoring system Digityre for Scuderia Ecosse's Ferrari 430 GT racer.

As an official technical partner to the team, the company will also provide engineering support for the suspension load cell data acquisition system.

"The strategy at BERU F1 Systems is to work with the best teams in each category", said Managing Director John Bailey.

"This ensures we create a product that is going to meet the specific requirements of that series".

"For GT racing, Scuderia Ecosse is the natural choice".

"I believe we can both benefit from developing the system for this type of car".

BERU F1 Systems uses the pressure and temperature sensors together to identify a puncture situation, cross checking values with preset parameters defined by the team's engineers.

Linked to the dash display it provides data that the drivers can use to identify slow or sudden pressure loss.

Scuderia Ecosse engineers will benefit too; when wheel and tyre combinations are changed the system automatically learns when a wheel has been swapped, negating any timely software reloads.

"We are delighted to be working with BERU F1 Systems", said Scuderia Ecosse's Senior Race Engineer Stuart Robertson.

"Seeing what it has achieved in F1 and other series, we know that it shares our values of success and attention to detail".

"Its data will help us extract the maximum potential from the new car in a very short timeframe".

Scuderia Ecosse will be running the systems on both their European and British Championship cars as well as at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
