Lightweight composite connectors for use in harsh environments are now available from Souriau's exclusive autosport distributor BERU F1 Systems.

The connectors, some 30% lighter than conventional aluminium versions have already been proven in aerospace and are expected to be popular in motorsport and ground vehicle applications.

Designed and manufactured by leading specialist connector manufacturer Souriau, the connectors use advanced engineering thermoplastic materials that have been adopted from those used in military helicopters and stealth aircraft.

Already in widespread use in today's major aerospace programmes like Boeing's 787 and Airbus' A380, the technology is now readily available for vehicles offering an effective weight reduction and resistance to corrosion.

"A significant weight reduction, especially one with no reliability penalty will not only be welcomed in motorsport but would assist another manufacturers looking to improve fuel economy and emissions by reducing vehicle weight", says Managing Director John Bailey.

After a ten year research and development programme by Souriau, the connectors successfully withstand aggressive fluids and meet vibration, shock, flammability and dust specifications, allowing customers to switch at their earliest opportunity.

As an incentive to users to trial the lightweight components, BERU F1 Systems is offering evaluation samples and for a limited period, attractive introductory pricing.
