A system for test and assembly of reaction tubes used in DNA analysis, from Stirling Engineering of San Jose, USA, incorporates the use of a steel belt from Belt Technologies

Belt Technologies works closely with OEM and drive design engineers to create innovative design solutions to complex motion control applications Innovations in assembly and manufacturing techniques afford designers with an array of options for automated assembly systems

Belt Technologies' steel belts can be fitted with any type of attachment to hold components in place throughout the assembly and test process.

Their cleanliness and stability ensure precision, repeatability, and suitability for many installations.

This includes an improved system for test and assembly of reaction tubes, used in DNA analysis for Stirling Engineering of San Jose in the USA.

The automated assembly incorporates the use of a steel belt from Belt Technologies, to achieve optimum performance.

Using the new design, 12 assembly stations feature an assembly and test cycle of 3 seconds, compared with the previous time of 10 minutes! The end user of the system, Doug Dority of Cepheid Co, in Sunnyvale, commented: "We looked at various conveyor products and had a problem with the high mass of the system.

The obvious solution was steel belts, which provide low inertia and excellent repeatability".

According to Dority, the line has been running flawlessly since its inception in April, 1999.

1800 tubes are produced per hour, a vast improvement over 400 per day previously employed.
