A novel independently steerable pulley can be used in two- or multiple-pulley conveyor systems, in systems with multiple pulleys on a common shaft or in systems with complete belt paths.

Belt Technologies has developed an independently steerable pulley (ISP) that can be used in two- or multiple-pulley conveyor systems, in systems with multiple pulleys on a common shaft or in systems with complete belt paths It provides a simple means of steering flat steel (or non-steel) belts

The ISP design allows the user to steer a belt either by locking the pulley's shaft and adjusting the pulley's steering collar or by locking the steering collar and rotating the pulley's shaft.

Individual pulleys can be adjusted more easily and precisely and multiple pulleys on a common shaft can be adjusted independently and each belt steered independently.

Steering adjustments can be made directly from the pulley without having to adjust the pulley shaft.

Engineers can design into their systems real time automatic tracking and "on the fly" adjustment.

The ISP offers users a number of benefits including minimising downtime when replacing belts on production machinery; simplification of design and assembly of conveyor systems using flat belts; minimal maintenance and extended belt life.

An ISP datasheet is available from the company.

In addition, Belt Technologies' "Design guide and engineers' reference for pulleys" provides information about pulley design and tracking, including pulley design criteria and options, material choice and sizing.
