Belt Technologies Europe has manufactured a wide range of stainless-steel tobacco bands for use within the secondary processing of tobacco for many years now.

The stainless-steel suction bands are used in the production of cigars and cigarettes and are available in a range of sizes and choice of smooth or gripper surfaces.

Belt Technologies Europe has recently developed a new application with a major European tobacco-processing plant for the use of steel belts within the primary stage of tobacco processing during which the bulk handling of raw, unprocessed tobacco takes place.

Stainless-steel belts and hygienic tobacco handling go hand in hand.

Belts made from stainless-steel provide a powerful solution to any cleanliness problems associated with tobacco handling and cigarette production.

Their resistance to heat, with some steels capable of operation in over 400C, makes their use in certain applications a prerequisite, particularly where steam or high temperature treatments are required.

Stainless-steel belts are odourless and will not influence the aromatic properties of the tobacco.

They do not generate particulate and hence they cannot pass onto the tobacco any unwanted fibres or particles which may prove harmful.

They need no lubrication and can be adapted in many ways to enhance their properties such as addition of custom attachments to the belt or special coatings.

The benefits of stainless-steel belts as part of automated production and packaging lines are also being increasingly recognised by system designers.

These advantages include precision indexing, heat transfer properties and good repeatability.

Applications include heat sealing of foil packaging for cigarettes.
