A product specifically designed to cut the cost and time traditionally associated with the maintenance of nozzles used for spray drying applications is available for the first time in the UK from Bete Ltd., the UK arm of US nozzle giant, Bete Fog Nozzle, Inc.

Based on a (patent pending) design, the new nozzle will cut typical replacement times by 80%-90% while offering superior performance to other devices, and will be of particular interest in industries such as food processing, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

Conventional nozzles for spray drying applications clog easily and need to be cleaned regularly.

This can be a time-consuming operation as access is usually difficult, and removal requires relatively high torques.

The Bete Twist and Dry, however, uses a greatly simplified design to offer higher clog resistance and faster change out.

Using fewer parts than other products on the market, the Bete Twist and Dry consists of a two-piece body for easy maintenance, and implements a one-piece swirl unit which greatly reduces breakage of the internal tungsten carbide components (the orifice disk).

The product also uses a unique locking mechanism which keeps the swirl chamber and orifice locked into position during assembly.

These key design features mean that the Twist and Dry not only needs less maintenance, but makes change out, when required, a significantly easier process requiring no special tools.

Typically, a single nozzle in such an application can require an hour of maintenance per week, and most applications have several nozzles.

Manufactured with FDA-complaint materials for food processing applications, the Twist and Dry features interchangeable swirl and orifice disks (orifice size 0.034" to 0.157") for variable pattern and flow rates.

To simplify selection of the correct swirl unit and orifice disk, the product is supported by easy to use software, supplied free of charge.

This intuitive package instantly calculates the required components after input of process parameters by the user.

Although supplied as standard with a corrosion-resistant 316 stainless steel body, tungsten carbide swirl unit and orifice disk, and EPDM "O" rings, other materials are available.

The product has hollow-cone spray characteristics, with spray angles of 50o to 80o in 5o intervals, and flow rates of 8.94gph to 1,5750gph.
