Modest recovery in UK fluid power
industry

John Walker's message to delegates of The British Fluid Power Association's (BFPA) sixth economic seminar at Gaydon was for a modest recovery in the UK fluid power industry in early 2003 improving into 2004 He was cautious about recent CBI and other surveys predicting things would improve at the end of this year, and said he believed that the recovery for manufacturing would not kick in until next year and when it does, it will be fairly modest

This year's Altair Technology Conference will take place on 2nd November at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon.
He highlighted the difference in performance between the various sectors within UK manufacturing and commented that though 2001 and 2002 had not been particularly good years for the UK fluid power industry, compared to some other sectors of manufacturing the results were on the whole not too bad.
Other speakers included Andrea Boltho who gave an excellent background to the global economic situation, David Phillips of Off-Highway Research, who gave an interesting insight into the world market for off-highway vehicles, and Alan Curtis of the Warwick Manufacturing Group who gave a presentation on UK manufacturing outlining the results of recent research by the Business-to-Business Centre.
The fluid power forecast and proceedings from the seminar are available to members of the BFPA and the BFPDA only.
