Whilst the 'Q' Mark programme certifies a company, HAT certifies individuals who are involved in all aspects of hose assembly.

The British Fluid Power Association has followed up its 'Q' Mark Hose Assembly programme with a further scheme called HAT, or Hose Assembly Technology training course Whilst the 'Q' Mark programme certifies a company, HAT certifies individuals who are involved in all aspects of hose assembly

The new scheme was launched at the Fluid Power Centre in Worksop, Staffs on 5th April 2007.

HAT is devised and written through the BFPA.

Available in three levels, individuals undergo a period of training at their place of work to attain a level of competency sufficient to enable formal certification.

HAT 1 is aimed at hose assembly personnel who perform their activities from verbal or written instructions.

Any deviations from the norm will be covered by set procedures or instructions from a higher qualified person.

HAT 2 qualified staff will be involved in meeting customers' needs both at a trade counter and on site.

Their activities will include the identification, selection, specification, assembly, installation and fault-finding associated with hose assemblies and will involve the use of simple diagnostic checks plus the ability to respond positively to problems.

Co-operation with others in the team or work group may be required.

HAT 3 is aimed at application engineers involved in the design and specification of hydraulic hoses and problem solving.

HAT 3 leads to a higher level of knowledge and understanding than HAT 1 or 2.
