Following the success of Bigrings, launched in January, Bighead Bonding Fasteners has introduced a new version which will allow threaded studs to pass right through the collars mounted on it.

Uses for these 'see-through' products include port hole reinforcements for lifeboats and head lamp retaining surrounds used in railway locomotives.

The new Bigrings offer cost reductions for products already in production as well as new designs.

Plastics manufacturers have tested Bigrings in GRP, polyethylene, polypropylene, phenolics and CFRP and have found them easy to use and economical.

"We are confident that the new version will be equally popular in the shipping industry and many other industrial environments", says Ken Stanley, managing director of Bighead.

"We've already had interest from UK and overseas companies".

Bigrings have multiple functions.

They are light, strong and provide both a means of attachment and an annular reinforcement.

They can be made quickly in any diameter from 30 to 750mm.

Bighead has a full range of threaded and unthreaded collars, studs, nuts, loops and similar devices in stock.

Prototypes can be produced within 24 hours and are free of charge.

Production of Bigrings is 100% scrap-free.

Jigging costs are minimal and, for the first time, the making of even small quantities is cost-effective.

These factors together with specialised welding techniques enable Bigrings to be designed, made and tested in a few days using 3mm diameter, 316S11 stainless-steel wire as standard or mild steel wire to order.
