In line with the EU RoHS Directive, BigHead Bonding Fasteners has now standardised on a new chrome-free zinc-passive finish for the mild steel range of its famous BigHead bonding fasteners, at no extra charge to the company's 1500-plus UK and overseas customers.

This type of finish - containing no hexavalent chromium - is now mandatory for plated metal parts used in the automotive industry, with other industries rapidly following suit.

"The new plating actually outperforms the 'old' type", says BigHead MD Ken Stanley: "and our customers have no problem with the very slight colour change".

"One thing that it hasn't affected, of course, is the very high torque and tensile strength provided by our unique welding process".

The complete range of BigHead bonding fasteners - some 2000 variants - is available in either mild steel or 316S11 marine-grade stainless.

The free samples and prototypes service operated by the company greatly simplifies the design process, as do the 2D/3D CAD drawings of the entire range which are available on a free CD; also included is a full set of PDF versions.
