A Bighead Bonding Fasteners product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 10, 2006

Marine version of fastener, made in 316S11 stainless steel, can provide a high speed problem-solving fastening method in boat and yacht construction, repair and maintenance.

First manufactured 40 years ago, the Bighead fastener is used throughout industry worldwide.

Bighead has introduced a marine version of the range, made in 316S11 stainless steel, and can provide a high speed problem-solving fastening method in boat and yacht construction, repair and maintenance.

With head sizes of up to 58mm and threadforms up to M12, the fastener's core load-spreading performance provides mechanical strength, high shear resistance and corrosion resistance.

The welding process is claimed to produce a weld as strong as the fastener's steel.

"The range is now being marketed in a carefully targeted selection of versions", said Brian Giddings, Bighead's Managing Director.

The quick-fit fastenings let boat builders fit sound proofing in engine rooms, fix hatches, tracks and travellers, and bases for electrical cable ties.

"Bighead can also formulate product to meet the industry's needs", said Giddings.

"Our initial customers include some of the world's top production boat builders who quickly identified the time-saving capabilities of Bighead products".

"For the boat owner, we are distributing the product through chandlers and boat yards; bright, high-impact point-of-display materials clearly direct customers to the correct product for their specific requirements".

For this launch, Bighead has selected 32 of its most popular products by test marketing with a cross-section of its marine customers.

The company also markets its own specialised bonding adhesives range under the Bigbond brand.

This comprises its High-Grab and FS Acrylic mixes; both are quick-setting and suitable for all external and interior marine applications.

They instantly bond Bighead fittings to thermoplastics, GRP, composites, alloys, wood, laminates and concrete; the acrylic version develops a tensile strength of 240bar.

Together, Bighead marine fasteners and Bigbond adhesives form an instant toolbox capable of providing fast, simple and effective bonding and fastening.
