Bishop-Wisecarver Corp supports Wardrobe for Opportunity, a nonprofit organisation that provides professional clothing and career support to low-income jobseekers.

Cameras flashed, the crowd cheered and models strutted down the catwalk during Wardrobe for Opportunity's second annual Power of Change fall fashion event, held on 26th October 2006 at Oakland's majestic Rotunda building The event, sponsored in part by Bishop-Wisecarver Corp, raised nearly US $35,000 for Wardrobe for Opportunity, a nonprofit organisation that provides professional clothing and career support to low-income jobseekers

The show celebrated the career and personal success of past Wardrobe for Opportunity clients, acknowledged sponsors and supporters, and recognised the transformative power of clothing.

Wardrobe for Opportunity clients modelled stylish business attire and accessories provided by the organisation's boutique-style facilities, and waived to the cheering crowds that watched from the Rotunda's floor, stairs and balconies.

In addition to her company's support of the event, Pamela Kan, president of Bishop-Wisecarver Corporation, joined Wardrobe for Opportunity's Sponsorship Committee, and encouraged other local businesses to donate silent auction items, serve as event sponsors, and attend the event.

"All of us here at Bishop-Wisecarver Corporation support organisations that help people who want to join the active, working community", Kan says.

"I heard a quote that a person should not be kept from a job for the lack of a suit, and it made me want to help people get the suit they need to get the job they want".

George Zimmer, President of the Men's Wearhouse, gave the keynote address.

The show also featured wine tasting by local wineries, hors d'oeuvres, and a delectable chocolate fountain.

Nicole Levine, Executive Director of Wardrobe for Opportunity, says the group could not do the work it does without the support of the community, which includes more than 200 volunteers, suit and accessory donations from thousands of individuals, and financial sponsorship from local companies and foundations.

"We are so fortunate to have Bishop-Wisecarver's partnership and Pamela's passion, energy and commitment to our mission", Levine says.

This year's show drew nearly 300 people - up from 225 last year.

And, funds raised at this year's show will be doubled through a matching grant from the Morris Foundation.

"Last year, because it was our first year, we only raised approximately $10,000, so we are extremely pleased with this outcome", Levine says.

"All of the funds raised will be used to provide professional clothing and career support to low-income jobseekers so they can secure employment and advance their careers".
