Composites company receives new certification

A Brookhouse Holdings product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 29, 2007

Brookhouse conducts its business activity in compliance with environmental legislation and strives to prevent pollution and continually improve its environmental performance.

After an intensive two-year validation process, Brookhouse has achieved ISO14001 environmental certification for its Darwen manufacturing site.

The registration of the company's environmental management system demonstrates to customers, shareholders and the community at large that Brookhouse conducts its business activity in compliance with environmental legislation and strives to prevent pollution and continually improve its environmental performance.

The company's environmental management programme covers all aspects of the company's operations and includes waste minimisation and recycling, energy reduction, air emissions, water usage and site appearance and housekeeping.

It even extends to suppliers and waste contractors, who are asked to demonstrate their own specific policies, in an effort to achieve waste minimisation from cradle to grave.

An important part of the certification process has been the training of all employees, from the boardroom to the shopfloor.

Everyone has been made aware of the objectives and targets set out in the environmental policy, in a series of training initiatives carried out over the past two years.

As Donna Singleton, the senior QMS and HSE Officer at Brookhouse explains, "The successful implementation of our environmental management system and the gaining of the ISO14001 certification have been largely due to the way that all Brookhouse employees have wholeheartedly backed the initiative".

"Senior management has unstintingly provided all the necessary resources and the workforce has shown great enthusiasm for all aspects of the project".

"It is also good to note that our certification follows on from the commendation for our waste management system which we received from the Lancashire Business Environment Association earlier this year".

Brookhouse was one of the first companies in the UK to be approved to ASEN9100:2000 and carries customer approvals from most of the major aircraft manufacturers, including Airbus, BAe Systems, Rolls Royce, SAAB and Bombardier.

It offers design and manufacturing for composites tooling, a facility for the repair of composite components and a capability for design, prototyping, manufacture, testing and finishing of complete composite components.
