TTi's HA 1600 mains and harmonics analyser has undergone an upgrade to incorporate both Amendment 14 to the harmonics legislation standard and extra functions to the flicker measurement capabilities

The HA 1600 mains and harmonics analyser from TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments) has undergone a major upgrade of its firmware to incorporate both Amendment 14 to the harmonics legislation standard (EN61000-3-2), and extra functions to the flicker measurement capabilities which conform to the European standard known as EN61000-3-3.

The HA 1600 is capable of continuous real-time analysis of both voltage and current.

As a general-purpose mains analyzer, it can measure Watts, VA, Vrms, Vpk, Arms, Apk, crest factor, THD, power factor, frequency and inrush current with a rating of 16 A RMS continuous.

The instrument has a 16 A current capability, and uses a shunt resistance of 3 milliohms as defined by the standard.

The large backlit LCD display provides both graphical and numeric displays.

It has RS-232 and parallel printer interfaces built in, as well as isolated monitor outputs which provide reconstructed voltage and current signals.

Additional capabilities have been added to version 2.0 of the flicker option firmware to measure voltage fluctuations to the requirements of IEC 61000-3-3.

The voltage fluctuations being measured are the changes in the supply voltage delivered by a supply network of non-zero impedance caused by changes in the current consumption of the equipment under test.

Their magnitude depends on both the load current variations and the impedance of the supply network.

The standard specifies a reference impedance containing both resistance and inductive reactance, and expresses the voltage variations as a percentage of the nominal supply voltage.

The input to the voltage fluctuation analysis is a sampled representation of the voltage waveform; in this instrument, there are 150 data points per half-cycle.

This data is RMS integrated over each half-cycle interval to obtain the RMS value of the voltage in that half-cycle.

These values are then expressed as a percentage of the nominal voltage.

The HA 1600 is a compact and portable instrument which incorporates a full set of analysis tools.

All results and waveforms are available on the graphical LCD or can be sent to a PC (via the RS232 interface) or to a printer.

The UUT is plugged directly into the front of the analyser, which incorporates a switched socket.

This can be specified as any of a wide range of standard European mains connectors.

The HA 1600 with flicker option costs ?1095 (plus VAT).
