The XFR Series of power supplies, now available from TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments), is a range of high-power (2.8kW) units with various combinations of voltage and current capability The series uses "soft switching" or zero-voltage technology

This virtually eliminates switching transients, and noise performance is closer to linear levels.

In addition, efficiency is increased, heat generation is decreased, and stress on the switching transistors is greatly reduced, improving reliability.

Unlike many competitive products, the XFR Series generates full power at full rated current over its total operating range of 0-50C without derating.

Because of excellent thermal management, units can be stacked in racks without leaving ventilation gaps between them.

Despite the high power output, the units are housed in a compact, 88 x 533 x 485mm, 15kg package.

Applications for these models include computer-controlled burn-in, electroplating, process control, magnet control and other high-power requirements.

For rack-mounting applications the unit is available in a 3.5in (2U) size.

The range includes nine standard models from the XFR 7.5-300 (0-7.5V and 0-300A) to the XFR 600-4 (0-600V and 0-4A).

Custom-specified combinations of voltage and current are also available.

Output voltage and current are monitored on separate digital meters, allowing accurate setting of voltage and current limit.

Stable output is achieved within five seconds maximum from power-on.

All specifications are guaranteed over a temperature range of 0-50C, and are only derated by 2%/C from 50 to 70C.

Remote analogue programming is standard on all units.

RS232 and 16bit GPIB (IEEE488) interfaces are available as options.

The series has full CE, CSA and UL approvals.

Other features include soft start to limit inrush current at power-on, multiple-level shutdown, high efficiency and quiet operation.

The XFR 2800 costs GBP2225 (plus VAT).
