Modular loads provide powerful testing
The WCL488 water-cooled load system is based on a modular design that allows a 120kW system to be constructed using 12kW building blocks.
The WCL488 water-cooled load system, now exclusively available in the UK from TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments), is based on a modular design that allows a 120kW system to be constructed using 12kW building blocks.
Master units and slave units are available in three types: the WCL488-50-1200-12000 with full-scale voltage ranges of 10, 20 and 50V; the WCL488-100-1000-12000 with full-scale voltage ranges of 10, 50 and 100V; and the WCL488-400-1000-12000 with full-scale voltage ranges of 20, 200 and 400V.
All units have full-scale current ranges of 100, 500 and 1000A and separate digital displays of voltage, current and power.
These units may be operated in constant-current, constant-voltage, constant-resistance or constant-power modes.
Resolution is 250ppm of selected full scale or 3W in constant-power mode.
In the analogue mode, external programming using 0-10V yields zero to full scale in all operating modes.
In the pulse mode, a pulse (0.06Hz to 5kHz) may be added on top of the DC setpoint.
GPIB (IEEE488) programming and readback are standard on all units.
Readback resolution is 250ppm of selected full scale on current and voltage and 3W for power.
Accuracy is +/-(0.5% + one digit).
For a single 12kW unit the specified cooling-water requirement is three gallons per minute of water at 10C.
Dimensions of master units are 483 x 133 x 610mm and slave units 483 x 89 x 610mm, so that a 120kW system consisting of a master unit and nine slave units is less than 1m high.
All units weigh 25kg and are rack mountable.
Voltage input is user-selectable at 100, 120, 200 or 240V AC +/-10% and 48-62Hz at 350W.
Module prices start at GBP 9314 (plus VAT).
