Vacuum requirements for steel degassing

An Edwards product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 10, 2003

Experts in dry running vacuum degassing and vacuum oxygen decarburisation systems will be presenting a paper at the ISS Technology Conference this spring in Indianapolis.

Experts in dry running vacuum degassing and vacuum oxygen decarburisation systems, Dr Simon Bruce, Vic Cheetham and Graham Legge, from leading vacuum pump specialist BOC Edwards, will be presenting a paper at the ISS Technology Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, 27th to 30th April 2003.

Investment in steel vacuum degassing processes, both in new plant and upgrades of existing plant, is continuing as steel companies see the opportunity to increase the value added component of their products by improving quality and supplying speciality grade steels.

Recent installations and operational results will be discussed.

The paper will be available from the publishers: Iron and Steel Society of USA.

In the area of ladle refining, recent advances in the degassing process utilising dry mechanical vacuum systems in place of liquid based water ring and/or steam ejector systems offer clear savings in running costs, maintenance costs, and installation space, and also offer increased speed, flexibility, and overall productivity to steel degassing operations.

The presenters will be examining recent operating experience and invite contributions and questions from the audience.
