Compressor keeps theme park ride under
control
Drayton Manor Family Theme Park's terrifying Apocalypse ride, opened by top girl band Bw*tched in May, has a Boge compressor to help control the ride's tilting mechanism
When top girl band Bw*tched opened Drayton Manor Family Theme Park's terrifying Apocalypse ride in May they would have given little thought as to what controlled the tilting mechanisms of this ultra-scary ride Apocalypse, the world's first stand-up free-fall ride, tilts thrill seekers forward at an angle of 15 degrees before hoisting them 180 feet skywards - then dropping them on a breathtaking 50 mph fall

Oil-free compressor design is easy to extend
Boge has developed a fundamentally new type of compressor - a modular oil-free system that is easy to extend and quick to service for the lower capacity range.
Compressors meet Superform's low noise needs
Superform Aluminium needed compressors that were not only energy efficient and reliable but also ultra-quiet, and Boge provided the necessary products
And it's a Boge compressor which helps control the ride's tilting mechanism, giving the thousands of people who flock to the midlands theme park each year a scary - but safe - ride.
A Boge SD8 compressor controls the tilt of the pods on Apocalypse.
The compressor also controls the lift of each pod to the top of the ride and enables the release mechanism to open up before the riders are sent hurtling to the ground in a dramatic G Force 4+ fall - which is only stopped by a powerful magnetic field.
Ian McSherry of Drayton Manor Park said: "The Boge SD8 is very efficient and the fact that it has an integrated dryer means that we can have our compressed air requirements served by one piece of equipment." Like all Boge compressors, the SD8 is designed to be service friendly.
Ease of access and a reduction in the number of components means that engineers can carry out their own day-to-day servicing with scheduled visits from Boge technicians.
Not only does this reduce overall service times but maintenance costs too.
Boge's 'S' Series has already been awarded Germany's most important design award for industrially manufactured products, the Industrie Forum seal for outstanding design quality in the industrial products category by the "Industrie Forum Design".
The Boge SD8 compressor behind Apocalypse is one of six Boge compressors at Drayton Manor Park. Request a free brochure from Boge Compressors ...
