Geoff Taylor, managing director of Boge compressors Ltd, and immediate past president of the British Compressed Air Society, celebrates his 20th year in the compressed air industry.

Geoff Taylor, managing director of Boge compressors Ltd, and immediate past president of the British Compressed Air Society, celebrates his 20th year in the compressed air industry.

Taylor comments on key changes within the industry over this period and how Boge is meeting the new challenges.

"The compressed air industry has seen many changes in the past 20 years.

"More recently the pace has changed with the onset of the CCL and a broader array of pre-requisites demanded by the customer.

"These have impacted on the way we do business and have led to one common factor in our industry - customers want more than just a blue, grey or yellow box when they purchase a compressor.

"The physics of compressing air using contra rotating screws is one area that has been honed by all manufacturers to squeeze out the last cubic metre of air.

"Compressor control is another area that has really changed in the search for better efficiency (kW/m3).

"The advent of transducers has made significant strides in control.

"Frequency control variable speed motors have also created marked improvements.

"With all manufacturers producing products to similar specification the customer has become faced with a 'me-too' scenario.

"It is therefore clear that such ongoing product enhancement can only be one aspect of the package sold.

"More than ever before, understanding one's customers' requirements and presenting a customised solution is the real key to overcoming this scenario".

BOGE is now entering its 9th year in the UK market under Taylor's leadership, having grown rapidly in this time.

The Boge product is now widely accepted and recognised as quality and reliable.

In this time Boge has listened to its customers needs and has created value-added concepts with energy currently at the heart of this strategy.

Control, monitoring, reporting KPI's (key performance indicators) along with a commitment to continual improvement underpins current Boge thinking.

At a time when all boxes (compressors), whatever colour, often present buyers with a 'me-too' scenario, Taylor comments: "It's not just about blue boxes and the lowest price.

"It's about staying abreast of new technologies, translating and then meeting customer needs on a one-to-one basis.

"In short with Boge you really do get more".

And it is Taylor's experience and retained enthusiasm for the industry, which enables Boge to present innovative energy solutions, added-value and exceptional service.

So what really makes the difference? The real difference, that Boge customers are experiencing, is providing a quality service with the right people at the core of the customer client relationship.

"It is about added-value products at the cutting edge that demonstrate competence and understanding of the current market".

And the future? Who knows.

But Taylor's knowledge and experience will continue to guide the growing BOGE presence in its dynamic approach to the UK market.
