Compressors breath life into Excalibur
ride
Boge Compressors has assisted Drayton Manor, one of the UK's major theme parks, in making the new Excalibur ride work efficiently and reliably.
The new Excalibur ride at Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, has been equipped with three Boge compressors with integral compressed air dryers These power the pneumatic controls that operate the animatronics and animation on the Excalibur ride

Oil-free compressor design is easy to extend
Boge has developed a fundamentally new type of compressor - a modular oil-free system that is easy to extend and quick to service for the lower capacity range.
Compressor keeps theme park ride under control
Drayton Manor Family Theme Park's terrifying Apocalypse ride, opened by top girl band Bw*tched in May, has a Boge compressor to help control the ride's tilting mechanism
John Nash of Multi Pneumatics, a Boge distributor, both specified and installed the compressors.
The theme park had already purchased several Boge compressors, including one to power its famous Apocalypse ride, and had been impressed by their reliability and quietness.
Ian McSherry, Operations Manager at Drayton Manor, asked Multi Pneumatics to calculate the most efficient way of delivering the required compressed air to the systems on the new Excalibur ride.

Compressed air in the pits at motor sports stadium
When the UK's only all-seater motor sports stadium opens on 26th May 2001, the cars pulling into the pit lane will be served by compressed air courtesy of Boge Compressors.
"We decided to use three separate compressors located at the points on the ride where the compressed air was needed, rather than one larger compressor and a lot of pipe runs", Nash explained.
"By doing that, we have dramatically reduced the pipe runs, eliminating pressure losses and have also reduced compressor noise, which is important to the ambience of the ride".
One compressor is located at the tunnel scene, one at the waterfall and another provides compressed air to the external features of the ride.
All operate at 8bar, delivering 1.154m3/min in the case of the Boge CD9, 0.54m3/min from the CD5 and 0.38m3/min from the CD4.
The integral compressed air dryers prevent condensation in the pneumatic controls that operate the ride's features, and thereby prevent stoppages, which could be caused by unwanted moisture in the system.
The Boge CD series of rotary screw compressors are belt driven electrically powered compressors with the patented Boge GM drive system to provide optimal belt tension in each phase of operation.
The design of the CD series permits all routine servicing to be carried out from the front, an important feature when compressors are operating in confined spaces.
Multi Pneumatics has provided Drayton Manor with a full 5-year maintenance agreement to ensure that all routine maintenance is carried out when it should be and that engineering support is available when necessary.
"We are very pleased with the compressor installations on the Excalibur ride", confirmed Ian McSherry.
"The Boge compressors there and elsewhere at Drayton Manor Theme Park give us the high-quality compressed air and the reliability that we need, which is very important with over 1.2 million visitors enjoying the rides at Drayton Manor every year". Request a free brochure from Boge Compressors ...
