All-polymer pump eliminates ionic contamination

A Boiswood product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 15, 2002

The self-priming Astipure PFD controlled flow pump is claimed to be the first pump with no internal or external metal parts - thus eliminating ionic contamination

Boiswood is now supplying the patented range of Astipure PFD controlled flow pumps from Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.

The self-priming Astipure is claimed to be the first pump with no internal or external metal parts - thus eliminating ionic contamination.

All versions are pneumatically operated using two bellows made from Teflon, which reciprocate horizontally.

Their pumping frequency is much lower than equivalent diaphragm pumps, which results in an extended life.

The low frequency and amplitude of the bellows pump also guarantees a lower level of particle contamination.

All wetted components are manufactured with Teflon and are suitable for pumping even the most corrosive and concentrated chemicals, including acids and solvents.

All other components are manufactured with high technology materials including PVDF and Peek to ensure no ionic contamination of the chemical even if there is a bellows failure.

The four Astipure models offer adjustable pumping rates of 10, 20, 50 and 100 l/min and are suitable for liquid temperatures from 0C to 100C.

The pumps are easy to maintain and contain no rotating shafts or glands that can cause leaks.

Applications include the transfer of ultrapure acids, chemicals and solvents for use in the semiconductor industry; recirculation, dispensing and filtration; chemical injection and sampling; safe transfer of corrosive chemicals and solvents in hazardous areas; and the transfer and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.

All Astipure pumps are assembled in cleanrooms, tested with DI water and cleaned and double sealed in plastic bags.
