Boldman played an important role in the recent refurbishment of the Astute pipe shop fabrication area at BAE Systems Marine.

The company has a history of working with BAE Systems Marine at Barrow on a number of high-profile projects, providing innovative solutions.

Boldman is one of the UK's largest suppliers of aluminium profile systems and services to the aerospace, nuclear, marine, automotive and UK engineering industries.

Boldman designed, manufactured and installed bespoke welding cells and protected work areas in the new facility.

Each welding cell was required to have local craneage to handle loads of up to 75kg.

Manufactured from a range of specially designed aluminium profiles and fittings, the enclosures and cells were constructed using various infill panels, welding screens and welding curtains to the front and sides of the cells provide total safety to operators and observers, both in and out of the cells.

The guarding system gave BAE Systems the flexibility and adaptability to install the cells without disruption to production.

The cells were installed quickly, with minimum fuss and integrated easily with other equipment within the pipe shop.

Supervisors cabins, protective screening and a number of trolleys for transporting pipes around the production area all formed part of the Boldman solution.

The Boldman modular approach fully exploits investment in CAD technology which greatly reduces costs associated with design, drafting, manufacture and assembly.

As well as providing customers with a capable product, modular tooling offers the benefits of being fully adjustable and re-configurable, enabling design error or changes to be incorporated at any stage of the manufacturing or assembly process.

Whilst to date the majority of modular assembly tools have been in support of the aerospace industry, this technology has the potential to deliver major benefits across a diverse range of industries.
