Direct transmission lifts boats free
from chains

Wise Handling of Bradford West Yorkshire, the UK's largest manufacturer of boat handling equipment, has integrated the latest Bonfiglioli direct drive transmission systems into its equipment.

Wise Handling of Bradford West Yorkshire, the UK's largest manufacturer of boat handling equipment, has integrated the latest Bonfiglioli direct drive transmission systems into its equipment Wise has just completed the construction of a 200t boat lifter, bound for Indonesia that uses the Bonfiglioli 700 Series of travel drives for greatly improved efficiency and performance

Many of the region's vessels are of wooden construction.

Timber deflection often occurs during lifting, and this can cause leaks.

For this reason the lifter had to be of longer design than normal and with four securing points for the slings instead of the usual three.

Safe smooth and controlled handling is essential when working with large boats and the application of a geared system more than enabled these requirements to be met.

The Wise engineering team consulted Bonfiglioli the Warrington based gearbox manufacturer working closely with them to finalise the design.

The finished lifter incorporates four of the latest robust and compact Bonfiglioli 715 model travel drive gearboxes that deliver 85,000Nm of torque with a high load capacity, rotating housing and mechanical lifetime seals.

The lifting system is controlled by four model 711 travel drives that deliver 45,000Nm of torque.

All gearbox units feature fail-safe parking brakes and are powered by a hydraulic motor.

An additional feature of the lifter is an extra driver's cab to aid visibility from either end.

Full control is possible from either cab and an option exists for remote control should the operator choose to leave the cab to execute difficult manoeuvres.

Wise Chief Engineer Keith Tubman states: "The Bonfiglioli drive system has enabled us to build machines of a more compact design that are considerably more efficient".

"We can also build them much faster and maintenance is relatively simple with no chains, sprockets and other mechanical parts to consider".

"This keeps our costs down as well as the future maintenance costs for our customers so everybody's happy".

It's a far cry from the days when we had to use chain driven systems". Request a free brochure from Bonfiglioli UK Mobile Solutions ...
