Modem mounts the rails

A Jekyll Electronic Technology product story

The rugged Telemodem2 modem is ideal for remote industrial plant monitoring and is now available with DIN-rail fixings.

The Telemodem2 modem is ideal for remote industrial plant monitoring and Jekyll Electronic Technology, which designed and manufactures the product, has listened to the needs of plant engineers and can now supply these rugged modems with DIN-rail fixings.

With years of proven experience in harsh industrial environments, these modems provide the perfect solution for efficient remote data acquisition at an affordable price.

The Telemodem2 can connect to equipment monitors, leak or overflow detectors, door contacts, tank level indicators and PLC programmable logic controllers that control plant sensor networks for remote condition monitoring.

The main advantage is the ability to download data from remote monitoring equipment as often as required, without the need to deploy resources on site.

The versatility of the DIN-mounted option means that a number of these modems can be put in a limited space and an easy "clip mounting" system means more can be easily be added when required.

Conventional modems were often too power hungry, difficult to set up and limited in configuration, but the Telemodem2 overcomes this through extended power options and a remote diagnostics capability.

There is a choice of data ports and interfacing depending on the host monitor/meter, and all Jekyll modems are interchangeable for added value to a customer's existing industrial telemetry setup.

Five modems are available.

The low power "Standard" connects at speeds up to 2400bit/s (V22bis).

Data ports are compatible with both logic and RS232 levels, and caller line identity reduces installation costs by allowing line sharing with other equipment.

Ideal for true remote monitoring, the "Freedom" operates on "zero power" from the telephone line, rather than using mains or battery power.

This simplifies installation to legacy equipment where communications power is not available.

Suited for downloading vast amounts of data from remote site, "Fastlink" features a 14,400bit/s (V32bis) high speed connection, without requiring any more power than an ordinary low speed modem.

For mobile telemetry applications, the GSM "Mobile" is able to draw power smoothly, without demanding large pulses of current, and remain in a standby state on literally micro-amps.

Supply voltages can be preselected to linkup with battery powered data loggers as well as direct power supplies in distribution plants.

The "Custom" means exactly that.

Choices include mounting, interfacing, communications protocol, mechanical configuration and power supply.

Environmental protection and intrinsic safety options can also be configured by Jekyll on request.
