Avoid the cost of static related problems

The cost implications of static damage are considerable but many companies have no idea of what static damage is costing them; it could be many thousands of pounds.
If the damage is found at the single device stage, the cost to the company will be the accumulated costs of purchasing the device, time of purchasing people, cost of raising orders, shipping, goods receiving costs, booking into the stock system, testing to find the failure, and so on.
If the damaged device is not found until PCB test then the costs associated will have increased ten-fold.
If the failure is found at system test there is an increase in costs by a further factor of ten.
For a device that fails in the field, in front of the customer, then the costs are at least 1,000 times that of finding it at goods in.
The British Electrostatic Control Association (BECA) will stage its second seminar for 2001 on Wednesday 24th October at Guesten Hall, Avoncroft Museum of Ancient Buildings.
Bromsgrove, Worcs.
The BECA seminar will equip delegates with the knowledge to enable them to avoid the cost and embarrassment of static related problems.
The theme for the day will be the new EN standard BS IEC 61340-5-1, managing the change.
BS IEC 61340-5-1 and 2 have been adopted as European (EN) standards for the implementation of ESD control measures in electronic manufacturing; BS EN 100 015 has been withdrawn.
The seminar will provide an opportunity for those experienced in this field to update their knowledge of ESD prevention using the new standard and will help newcomers to the subject to gain an understanding of ESD prevention practice.
The presenters, who are industry experts in the field of ESD, will use practical demonstrations to clarify and emphasise key technical points.
How to manage the transition to the new standard in terms of the technical, procedural and training needs will be provided, and a panel discussion session will provide a forum for delegates to discuss ESD protection issues with the industry experts.
The one-day seminar costs ?145 (+VAT) per delegate, with discounts for group bookings.
