Induction and flame hardening seminar
An in-depth tutorial into particular techniques of surface hardening will be given at an Induction and Flame Hardening Seminar organised by the British Gear Association.
The single flank method of gear measurement is a vital tool in certain gear applications and has virtues not always widely appreciated.
It represents a very rapid method for checking all the working surfaces of the gear for the combined effects of errors of profile, lead, pitch and run out.
The speed at which it can be carried out means that 100 per cent gear quality inspection is a practical reality.
The workshop, part of the BGA's Technology Transfer Programme 2000, is split into a seminar and practical demonstration.
The seminar will be a forum for discussion of the merits of single flank gear measurement when compared with elemental tests.
Included in the discussion will be gear accuracy standards and a study of elemental error contribution to a final composite error.
Applications for single flank gear testing will be covered during the workshop and the practical demonstration will include gear testing and using electronic measuring equipment for automatic gear quality evaluation.
Delegates, who are being limited to 12 places, will also be given a factory tour.
Further information about the workshop, which costs ?150 for members and ?300 to non members, is available from the BGA on 01283 515521 or visit the web site at www.bga.org.uk.
