A seminar on Induction and Flame hardening is to be run by the British Gear Association (BGA) in Sheffield on May 16.

The seminar will give an in-depth tutorial in the different techniques of surface hardening, in particular induction and flame hardening, and will include methods of testing surface hardened components, the basic metallurgy of the surface hardening process and the advantages/disadvantages - of surface hardening.

There will be in-depth coverage of how to design components to take advantage of surface hardening, avoiding potential pitfalls such as cracking and distortion, with particular attention being paid to surface hardening of transmission components.

The tutors, Mr.Roger Haw and Mr.Vladimir Murawa both of Flame Hardeners Limited, Sheffield, are encouraging delegates to take examples of problems or component designs that they are currently considering.

These examples can be discussed in open forum during the seminar which is to be held at the EEF Sheffield Association from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.

This seminar is part of the BGA's Technology Transfer Programme for 2001, which can be found on the BGA Website.
