The paper highlighted the great potential of Barkhausen noise analysis as a non-destructive method for use in the quality control of material properties.
The authors summarised the benefits and applications of the process in the field of hardened steel gear manufacture, amongst others, and discusses the potential for the technique in monitoring fatigue damage accumulated in service.
Examples of the practical application of the technique in marine gearing were also presented.
