The British Gear Association recently hosted the annual meeting of its European umbrella organisation, Eurotrans.

The British Gear Association recently hosted the annual meeting of its European umbrella organisation, Eurotrans.

The event, at the Craxton Wood Hotel, near Chester, was primarily a series of meetings on technical and economic issues relative to the European transmissions market, as well as board meetings where the officers of Eurotrans were elected.

Delegates took part from France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Finland and the UK with specially invited guests from the USA.

To support these meetings the BGA organised a number of social events for the delegates and their partners.

The first day's meetings were on technical areas of interest, including European collaborative research and global gears.

Representatives of the various countries gave an in-depth review of the economic position and forecast of future trends in the transmission market.

On the second day delegates visited the JCB Wrexham plant and afterwards debated the policies - and plans for future projects - of Eurotrans.

A presentation was given by Austen Adams, of David BrownTextron, entitled "Nobody promised it would last forever", taking a look back and forward at the state of transmissions and industry as a whole.

One of the social highlights of the European get-together was a formal gala dinner at which delegates were addressed by the new BGA Chairman Roger Haw and the new Eurotrans President Philippe Dulaey of the French Association.

Next year's hosts are Belgium who intend Ostend to be the venue.
