From 1st January the British Gear Association will be known as the British Mechanical Power Transmission Association.

From 1st January the British Gear Association will be known as the British Mechanical Power Transmission Association.

The initiative to trade as the BMPTA was approved by officers of the association at a recent executive council meeting.

Although the BGA will continue to be the registered company, it will trade under the new BMPTA banner.

Said Chief Executive Tom Lynch: "The British Mechanical Power Transmission Association better reflects the scope of our members.

At the same time it gives an opportunity to increase the representation to include other sector areas such as chains, belts, sprockets, bearings, seals and clutches.

This will allow an extended range of topics for seminars, training courses and research projects.

Where there are existing trade bodies covering aspects of these additional sectors, it is intended to collaborate closely with them to provide joint events".

Lynch said work was underway to implement the rebranding and this would be completed in time for an official changeover effective from 1st January.
