While many trade associations are currently contracting, the British Valve and Actuator Association continues to go from strength to strength.

While many trade associations are currently contracting, the British Valve and Actuator Association continues to go from strength to strength.

BVAA Director, Rob Bartlett, explains: "BVAA is currently seeing an unprecedented upsurge in membership applications".

"Already we have seen 15% growth this year and I am very pleased that we are attracting so many new members".

"What is particularly encouraging is the return to membership of so many former members".

Recent recruits include Alco Valves, Alcon Valves, Bifold Fluid Power, HH Valves, Midland-ACS, RB Valvetech, UK Process Valves, Valvecare Engineering and Warren Morrison Valves.

"Like the industry it serves, BVAA has had to adapt to the changing and often challenging trading conditions being experienced these days", says Bartlett.

Certainly, the flow control market has seen its fair share of contraction and consolidation.

Many companies have had to adapt their business to suit and consequently the traditional demarcation lines between manufacturers, distributors, stockists and 'value adders' have become blurred.

Says Bartlett: "BVAA has maintained its British focus, but we have now opened our membership up to distributors and repairers of valves and actuators".

"In addition, we have also adapted our services to suit modern trading conditions".

"BVAA continues to have an excellent reputation for its strength on technical issues, but lately we have concentrated a great deal of effort into honing our commercial and promotional activities, such as our new website, our tenders services, improved publications portfolios, desktop exhibitions etc".

"We have also forged stronger links with contractors and end users and are now providing a pro-active interface between our members and their customers".

"With manufacturers running 'lean' these days, trade associations are ideally placed to provide their members with efficient services at an affordable cost".

"The key to BVAA's recent success is that we thoroughly research members' needs and then action them in an extremely effective and energetic manner".
