Brevini UK has drawn on its integrated hydraulic system and gearbox expertise to engineer a complete drive system for the 900M secondary impact crusher designed and built by Rota-Mill in the UK.

The 900M reduces any friable material such a quarried aggregates, bricks or glass into smaller more manageable material ranging in size from 40mm pieces to dust.

The Brevini power system optimises the efficiency and the effectiveness of the package as a whole, allowing Rota-Mill to produce a more reliable and competitive product.

Bob Taylor, MD of Rota-Mill and designer of the 900M machine decided to use Brevini as a sole supplier after he encountered compatibility and servicing problems with components sourced from different suppliers: "It is essential that the hydraulics systems on our machines are able to cope with harsh operating and environmental conditions, if any problems should arise the supplier should provide unwavering technical support, rather than blaming the problem on another component and ducking the responsibility.

Brevini UK were the only supplier who could do this for us; to design, specify, supply and support the complete system solution".

"The service support aspect was particularly important to us because our machines are often located in remote areas such as quarries where downtime is expensive and access is time consuming and difficult.

By sourcing the complete system from Brevini, we have ensured that it is designed to work together and that every component is totally compatible.

This has reduced our time and expenditure in product development and improved reliability out in the field, earning Rota-Mill a better reputation for product quality and reliability".

The Brevini package starts at the Cummins diesel power unit with a hydraulic pump to provide system pressure, this is the first of a series of items supplied by SAM Hydraulic, a Brevini UK group company.

SAM orbital motors combined with Brevini planetary gear units are used to drive the upper and lower conveyors and another high power piston motor is employed to drive the main crusher.

Brevini planetary reduction units increase torque within a confined area and allow for higher motor speeds, this arrangement allows a smaller motor to be used, cutting weight and cost, while increasing system efficiency.

The power system therefore provides reliable performance while controlling manufacturing costs.

This aspect is crucial as the Rota-Mill 900M is designed to fill a gap in the market for a medium sized secondary crusher that can process a variety of materials.

The heart of the machine is a 4t crusher that uses cast chrome or manganese hammers spinning at 1000rev/min within a reinforced steel body to shear and beat the input material into finer particles.

A hydraulic solution was ideal for this item because it provided the torque levels and the robustness required to operate at variable speeds and loads.

The system has pressure relief valves that protect both it and the rest of the equipment in the case of uncrushable materials such as steel entering the crusher, which can often be the case when these machines are used for recycling or demolition.

A patented stone-on-stone crushing system allows tramp metal to pass safely through the machine whilst allowing easy adjustment of product size.

The lid of the machine is also lifted hydraulically for easy replacement of hammers and other wear parts, while a range of Brevini hydraulic valves are employed to control the motors, hydraulic cylinders and support jacks.

The complete system was designed and supplied from the UK.
