Gas purging system simplifies humidity control

A Brownell product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 28, 2008

Brownell dry gas purging safeguards products ranging from electronics, switchgear and workstations to storage containers, underwater equipment and double glazing cavities.

The self-contained Brownell NEPS1000 portable dry gas purging system has released greater convenience and simplicity to effective humidity removal and oxygen inhibition of electronic and optical equipment, instruments, housings and other systems requiring gas drying to control moisture.

Single- connection purging, dewpoint and pressure readout, user programmability and automatic purging cycle are included and the units need only be connected to the purge connection and can be maintained online.

When a pre-selected pressure setting is achieved the gas supply is isolated and the gas flows to the exhaust port, where the dewpoint is measured.

Purging then continues until the desired dewpoint protection has been achieved.

Single-connection purging eliminates any "pockets" of unconditioned gas found in traditional dual-entry and outlet systems, while a choice of three selectable pressure cycles ensures that the dry gas influences all equipment space volume.

The system's dewpoint monitor can check essential gas dryness prior to operation and a remote dewpoint sensing option monitors dryness, switching off and isolating the gas when the selected level is achieved.

For full flexibility and portability three models are available, fitted with pumps and moisture adsorbing molecular sieves that are readily exchanged when saturated.

These units maintain all operating functions of standard Brownell purgers and no additional gas supply is required.

Selectable programming can be set to view process control values and display dewpoint measurements in Celsius or Fahrenheit with pressure in kPa or psi.

Four in-built leak testing capabilities verify the sealing standard of purged equipment.

The unit's Dewpointstat gas control enables users to determine the amount of moisture contained within equipment and to implement an optimised gas and purging procedure for production control.

Modern systems and materials have potentially significant amounts of in-built moisture apart from that contained within the air.

Humidity and water vapour can damage their operation and reliability and Brownell dry gas purging safeguards products ranging from electronics, switchgear and workstations to storage containers, underwater equipment and double glazing cavities.
