Leicestershire-based welding and fabrication specialist Ace Arc has strengthened its sales and administration team with two new appointments.
The visit culminated in refreshments and a question-and-answer session that proved as enlightening for BSA as it did for the children! As well as providing the pupils with a closer understanding of a machine tool manufacturing site, the visit was an important step in Shirestone's participation in the Technology Challenge being staged by the Machine Tool Technologies Association.
Now in its seventh year, the Challenge is supported by Education Business Partnerships in Birmingham, Leicestershire and Warwickshire, and aims to give both teachers and pupils first-hand experience of manufacturing industry.
BSA's partner school, Shirestone, is one of 22 schools involved in the event which sees each school provided with a computer-aided technology kit that the children can use, along with other materials of their choice, to explore the manufacturing theme through a variety of cross-curricular activities.
These may include designing and building a working powered model inspired by the machines seen during their factory visit, as well as producing drawings, written work, drama and music.
Guidance and support is being provided by machine tool builder BSA, and the results will be displayed at a special Technology Day at the Heritage Motor Centre, Warwickshire, on 14 June 2000.
