BSL has introduced an internet based, e-commerce system that simplifies the supply chain, optimises transactions through paperless trading and enables its customers to save time and resources

BSL's new Genius b2b is a "Next Generation", Internet based, e-commerce system that simplifies the supply chain, optimises transactions through paperless trading and enables companies to save time, money and resources The first system of its type for industry, Genius-b2b guides engineers and buyers through product selection and then suggests the ideal product to be used

Products can then be ordered electronically from BSL in a paperless and stressless transaction.

Genius -b2b (business to business) is the answer to future purchasing needs, today.

It has been introduced to meet the requirements of engineers, purchasing professionals and managers, all of whom need to increase efficiency, optimise resources and save time in their operations.

The e-commerce system is a recognition that in the future there will continue to be a variety of communication preferences between BSL and its customers, and also that buyers will exercise more flexibility in the way that they purchase products.

The importance of Genius-b2b can be judged from research that shows that up to sixty percent of manufacturer's suppliers can relate to the Maintenance Material Supply Chain.

BSL's Genius-b2b system cannot change the fact that keeping a plant running effectively requires thousands of parts from hundreds of suppliers.

However, it can focus these requirements, via a supplier whose product range exceeds a million products, and provide a click, breathe and relax method of supply.

The Genius-b2b system provides access to the vast array of technical and dimensional information held in the Genius database.

Its fully parametric search engine means that it can be searched using a part number, or via several product attributes, meaning product selection is fast, simple and accurate.

But that is just the start.

The Engineer just clicks the selected product 'into the shopping basket' and allows the Genius-b2b system to communicate the product selection to the organisation's existing requisition system in a true paperless transaction.

This means that engineers and purchase professional can "breathe a sigh of relief" that the multi-copy "paper chase" has gone forever, and be assured that their purchase will be quality controlled, from a commercially selected supplier.

Management too, can relax in the knowledge that the transaction is price guaranteed and controlled efficiently, saving time, money and resources.

Genius b2b is not just another e-commerce site.

It has been in development for 18 months, and involved interviews with 300 customers, who were picked at random to assess what their needs and capabilities were, in terms of trading on-line, in particular their facilities for achieving full "system to system" integration between supplier and customer IT systems.

This research buttresses the fact that Genius-b2b is based upon well proven principles, it being an extension of the EDI system which BSL has been operating for the last twelve years.

This means that Genius-b2b offers the benefit of having been evolved over time, in contrast to a theoretical project which has had to be implemented from scratch.

Commenting upon the launch of Genius- b2b, BSL's Marketing Director, David Southern, said: "Our aim in developing and launching Genius- b2b is to provide a flexible e-commerce solution that's as individual as the organisations it serves.

At BSL we recognise that the only finite resource is time.

Successful organisations of the future will need to spend this resource wisely, embracing technologies which reduce costs and increase efficiency in order to generate extra profit.

Genius b2b is the first of a new generation of e-commerce solutions that can meet these cost and efficiency objectives.

I believe that it will change the way in which people work.".
