BSL has received a large order from DuPont at Gloucester that has so far resulted in over GBP 500,000 of business The figure includes a single order for GBP 338,000 the largest single order in the company's history in the first phase of replacement gearboxes for use at DuPont's nylon fibre production unit that will take reliability at the plant to a new level

Initially, DuPont approached BSL to investigate the possibility of refurbishing the ageing gearboxes at its Gloucester site.

Following investigations undertaken by BSL at its Leeds branch, it was decided to offer DuPont new, more reliable, more compact gearboxes from Italian manufacturer Brevini.

Interestingly, this offered DuPont a more cost effective solution, while simultaneously improving plant availability.

At the plant, the gearboxes sit alongside the "kettles" that melt down the nylon pellets and are instrumental in the process that spins the nylon fibre and winds it onto spools.

Such spools contain enough nylon fibre to cover over 2500km.

The fibre is subsequently used in the textile manufacturing industry in a wide variety of applications.

Commenting on the order, BSL's Marketing Director Steve Woodhead said, "This order is very exciting for BSL.

It is the culmination of a true team effort and represents input from BSL sites around the UK including Gloucester, Leeds and Middlesborough.

It is in this area of service that BSL excels, where a customer requests engineering support from an early stage, and we can draw on our considerable experience and engineering ability to arrive at a solution that is not only technically superior, but offers a cheaper overall cost of ownership".

DuPont's manufacturing Area Engineer Paul Denby said, "Replacing 40 year old technology, the state-of-the-art solution from BSL gives us a continuous, 24-hour production capability.

Nylon spinning production at DuPont's Gloucester plant involves high process demands, and the high reliability of the Brevini gearboxes from BSL is very important to us".
