Bosch is planning to invest more than Eur 110 million in its Japanese operations, with a particular focus in the automotive technology business sector.

The Japanese market continues to generate the highest level of sales for the Bosch Group in Asia with Eur 2.3 billion in sales during 2004, representing more than half the group's total Asian market sales.

Commenting on this and future plans, Franz Fehrenbach, CEO of Robert Bosch said: "In future we want to have an even greater part in the successes of Japanese industry".

"With our innovative product range and our sound development and manufacturing base in Japan, we believe that we are in a good position to do just that".

Supporting this objective Bosch has announced that it plans to invest more than Eur 110 million in its Japanese operations with a particular focus in the automotive technology business sector - in 2004, 90% of its sales in Japan were generated with automotive products.

Bosch expects its main opportunities for growth to come from the manufacture of original equipment components for cars, such as its ESP braking system, the company has forecast that the percentage of new cars fitted with this active safety system in Japan will rise from 10% in 2004 to approximately 25% in 2007.

To take full advantage of these opportunities, Bosch will be pooling its Japanese activities in both the original equipment and after-market sectors.

The complete product range associated with the car - diesel and chassis systems, electronic components, spark plugs and testing/diagnostic equipment for car workshops - will in future come from a single integrated company.

Bosch KK and Bosch Automotive Systems Corporation are to be merged to form a new company - Bosch Corporation.

Bosch business interests in Japan go back almost 100 years and it is now one of the largest German companies in the country.

The company has 25 locations and a total of 9200 employees - 8400 in the automotive technology sector.

Of the total more than 1000 people work in research and development.
