BAE Systems has joined the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Corporate Council, having successfully fulfilled PMI's membership criteria.
PMI is a world leading authority for the project management profession.
It sets industry standards, conducts research, and provides professional opportunities for practitioners.
As a Corporate Council partner, BAE Systems will serve as a valuable resource for PMI by providing knowledge and insight into organisational level project management needs in the changing global economy.
BAE Systems joins the US Department of Defense, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, IBM and Lockheed Martin, as members of PMI, advancing the profession by increasing recognition of project management's strategic and tactical importance.
Three years ago, BAE Systems established a Corporate Project Management Council (CPMC), responsible for governance, policy and overall enterprise strategy for the project management function in terms of both people and process.
The council delivers more effective project management leading to increased customer satisfaction, improved margins and advancement of the project management profession.
The CPMC promotes consistent processes and provides focused leadership across the company.
Peter Fielder, BAE Systems' Project Management Council Chair said: "We are delighted to join the PMI Corporate Council".
"Like BAE Systems, PMI is committed to achieving world-class proficiency in project management by the consistent application of project management standards and the development of project management skills to ensure that predictable performance is achieved in all projects so as to continue delivering this improvement for our customers".
"Performance is a key element of BAE Systems' vision and values", said Fred Payne, BAE Systems' Project Management Director and the company's representative on the council.
"Our membership in PMI demonstrates the company's commitment to excellence in programme performance".
Wally Moore, PMI's Manager, Business and Government Relations, who has primary relationship responsibilities with Corporate Council Members, said: "We are excited to have BAE Systems as a Corporate Council Member and consider them a valuable resource in providing knowledge and insights into organisational-level project management aimed at advancing the profession".
"They will be a tremendous asset and we look forward to BAE Systems becoming a productive partner on the council".
