ATEX approval for coupling ranges

A British Autogard product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 30, 2003

Autogard has received approval under ATEX Directive 94/9/EC for its Autoflex and Samiflex ranges of couplings for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Autogard has received approval under ATEX Directive 94/9/EC for its Autoflex and Samiflex ranges of couplings for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

The extensive Autoflex HVII range, which has ATEX approvals for both six-link (150-13,000Nm) and eight-link (3.4-200kNm) versions, is suitable for API markets such as oil refineries and petrochemical plants, where it is designed to provide an infinite operating life for high-duty rotating equipment.

The waisted-link design provides greater flexibility to substantially lower reaction forces on the bearings of the connected equipment.

Stresses through the membrane are uniform and inherently low due to the reduced weight and inertia of the pack.

Autoflex couplings are available with an innovative and patented anti-fly guard ring that improves dynamic balancing, reduces windage, protects the membranes, limits end-float and provides an essential fail-safe arrangement in the unlikely event of a membrane failure.

Autogard's popular Samiflex range of 15 elastomeric couplings covering torques from 24Nm to 56kNm, is used extensively for pumping applications in process industries such as water, pulp and paper, metals and mining, with bore sizes from 16 to 210mm.

Inserts are easily removable for maintenance and available in different materials for a wide range of applications.

Once the Samiflex's hubs and retaining ring have been installed and aligned on its shaft the unit will not need to be removed again for the life of the equipment.

Inserts can be removed without the need to remove driving or drive equipment, enabling them to be changed faster than any other coupling.

Announcing the ATEX approvals, Autogard Sales Director Stuart Leigh said they demonstrate the company's commitment to meeting the needs of customers operating in API and other potentially explosive environments.
