Miniaturisation in the Balluff photoelectric range continues to advance with the new BOS 08M and BOS Q08M families available in diffuse, retroreflective, through-beam and fixed focus These photoelectric housings in M8 tubular and 8mm square are also compatible with inductive type housings for applications that need that extra sensing range

This range of tiny sensors is ideal for applications such as small component inspection where traditional solutions such as fibre optics will not be robust enough.

The BOS 8M range made out of stainless steel are self contained sensors, needing no separate expensive amplifiers, and their compact design make mounting and installation a breeze.

For example the 8mm square sensors, with their 90-degree optics, can slide directly into standard machine building profiles or bolt directly to the side of small conveyors to integrate completely and become part of the machine.

Jim Wallace, Balluff Industry Manager for Robotics commenting on feedback from the automation industry so far says: "These sensors now open up new possibilities in highly dynamic applications, such as robot gripper arms, precisely because this is where components with light weight, compact size yet extreme precision are demanded".
