Balluff announces BTL7 linear transducers

A Balluff product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 10, 2009

Balluff has introduced the latest Micropulse BTL7 linear transducers, offering advanced technical properties and functions.

Additional features of the BTL7 include LEDs for indicating the operating status and providing visual diagnostic capability with no additional equipment.

Among the technical improvements are stroke lengths up to 7.6m; meaning one system can be used for all stroke lengths.

In addition to the connector version, there is a cable type offering IP68 protection and greater sealing to open up new applications.

A non-linearity of just 0.01 per cent (up to 5.5m of stroke) means more accurate closed-loop control, while the two-wire remote set-up feature adds flexibility in operation.

The BTL7 is available in a Standard and High-End version.

The Standard version is downward compatible with the previous BTL generations in installation and function.

Users can switch to the Standard with no design changes.

If service should ever be necessary in existing applications, the older generation model can be replaced by the BTL7 to add improved performance.

The High End version, Micropulse Plus, adds a configurable dual output providing position and velocity information.

The latter allows very slow movements down to 0.0003m/s to be monitored.

A second current output permits the connection of two separate processor units.

Parameter setting, programming and startup of the system can be done using a USB interface on a laptop or PC.

Balluff transducers are also available in profile housings with floating or captive magnet ideal for installation on machine frames; the waveguide being protected inside an aluminum extruded housing.
