Leading entrepreneur, philanthropist and TV personality, Sir Alan Sugar, will be the star of a "Question Time" style evening, at Brunel University, in West London, on Wednesday 5th October.

Sugar, the founder of electronics giant Amstrad, which produced affordable technology for a mass market in the 1980s, and the host of BBC 2's successful series "The apprentice", broadcast earlier this year, will be inviting guests to ask him questions about his views and opinions, personal recollections from his own life and advice on how to succeed, in the HSBC Lecture 2005, "An evening with Alan Sugar", at the university's campus, in Uxbridge.

"I enjoy being accessible, recognisable and perhaps a role model for the public", says Sugar.

"It's equally important to be able to have a rapport with a live audience".

"I'm looking forward to being in the hot seat myself, for a change".

Sugar grew up in the East End and left school at 16.

After briefly working for the civil service, he set up his own business selling electrical goods.

He founded Amstrad in 1968, formed from his own initials - Alan Michael Sugar Trading - which began as a small enterprise and became a leading international electronics company today.

Sugar is also Tottenham Hotspur's largest personal shareholder; and the Alan Sugar Foundation, established in 1986, has donated millions of pounds to charity.

In July, Brunel University awarded Sugar the honorary degree of Doctor of Science - HonDSc - for his outstanding service to information technology.
