Burkert Fluid Control Systems has supplied one of its solenoid flow valves for a unique rinse-water control system designed to save millions of gallons of water and thousands of pounds for the metal finishing industry At a time when the metal finishing industry faces more stringent monitoring of its chemical processes, ever tighter environmental regulations, and increasing water bills and even rationing, instrumentation and control specialist Moranlord has launched the Rinse-tek RT10 - a control system designed specifically for use with rinse-water tanks in the surface coating/plating industry

Rinse-water tanks use a continuous flow of water to clean components between each stage of the plating process.

The flow of water is rarely monitored, which means there is considerable potential for cost savings if the flow of water can be accurately controlled.

Moranlord managing director David Harmer says affordability, ease of installation and reliability were priorities for the design of the Rinse-tek RT10, which is supplied as a complete boxed kit with control unit, probe assembly and Burkert water control valve.

The Rinse-tek system, which is adaptable for hard and soft water areas, allows the conductivity of water in the rinse tank to be preset to suit the concentration of carry-in process chemical required for optimum operation.

The purpose-designed Moranlord electrodeless sensor then continuously monitors the solution and transmits signals to the Burkert solenoid valve, which controls the flow of water to maintain the required conductivity level.

Commenting on the use of Burkert solenoid valves David Harmer stresses that all Rinse-tek components have been specified for their accuracy and reliability, adding that other systems on the market using sensors and valves from industrial dishwashers, have proved unreliable.

The Rinse-tek RT10, which is priced to enable plating companies to fit a system to each rinse tank, is claimed to cut processing costs significantly by reducing water usage, providing more accurate and consistent chemical concentration, simplifying water treatment and reducing operator intervention.
