The O-Ring - economic and everlasting
(almost!)
The O-Ring - economic - effective - efficient - everlasting (well, almost!)
Despite the abundance of innovative and often elaborate sealing systems available to design engineers, the O-Ring still retains a viable place in hydraulic and pneumatic industrial applications In fact, introduced some 60 years ago, the O-Ring still features as an element in most sealing technology today

Perfluoroelastomer seals cut down O-ring numbers
The economy of the Isolast range is enabling many processors to use perfluoroelastomer seals in applications where they had previously been forced to use PTFE or FEP encapsulated O-rings.
Coatings improve O-ring performance
Two new coatings provide performance, installation, environmental and cost benefits for O-rings, together with handling advantages in automated assembly processes.
By virtue of its simple design, ease of installation and low cost, the O-Ring provides efficient and economic sealing for a wide spectrum of general applications.
Even in more demanding applications, where, for example, aggressive or gaseous media is encountered, an O-Ring, manufactured in an appropriate material, is well suited to the sealing task.
Expanded elastomer options, together with developments in surface treatments and advanced material compounds, have ensured continued importance for the O-Ring in system engineering.
Treatments include applied coatings, to reduce friction and encapsulation, to repel hazardous media.
Such variations make O-Rings a suitable choice for operation in even the most extreme operating environments.
O-Rings are available in a wide range of materials such as Nitrile, Polyurethane, Ethylene-Propylene, Fluorocarbon, Silicone, Chloroprene, Perfluoroelastomer and metal, all of which extend the seal's capabilities.
Metal O-Rings are effective at temperatures from cryogenic to +850C and static working pressures up to 1000MPa.
The operating ranges for non-metal O-Rings are dependent on the material; however, optimum performance is generally achieved at temperatures between -200C to +260C and pressures to 200MPa .
Busak+Shamban application engineers can help you select the most appropriate O-Ring material for your specific application to achieve optimum sealing performance at an economical price.
