The economy of the Isolast range of perfluoroelastomer seals from Busak+Shamban is enabling many processors to use high-performance perfluoroelastomer seals in applications where they had previously been forced to use PTFE or FEP encapsulated O-rings.

Typical applications where this trend is occurring is in fluid handling couplings, found in all process operations where aggressive media, including oxides (ethylene and propylene), vinyl acetate, acrylates, ACN, acids, alcali, formaldehyde and solvents are used.

With each coupling employing up to five O-rings and often a square section of rubber to metal bonded component, OEMs have previously found the use of perfluoroelastomer seals prohibitive, on grounds of cost.

However, safety is critical with this equipment and the FEP encapsulated and solid PTFE O-rings presents a safety risk.

Isolast provides a true elastomer with memory and flexibility, is easy to install and difficult to damage Additionally, Isolast provides the opportunity to increase service life, reduce fugitive emissions and lower maintenance costs through the use of fewer O-rings.

Manufactured within the Busak+Shamban group resources, performance comparisons show Isolast to have a better combination of chemical resistance and temperature capability than competitive perfluoroelastomers while very low hysteresis offers exceptional dynamics, sealing response and reduced energy dissipation.

Analysis shows that, in 90% of applications a single grade of Isolast may be specified saving considerable time in specifying, coupled with cost and supply advantages offered by Busak+Shamban.
